Windows updates should always be turned off on a Milestone XProtect system. Any update made to .NET while Milestone XProtect is running can cause a real headache.
We have more than a few instances where a customers IT team don't turn off automatic updates and end up bricking their Milestone XProtect system. This generally requires re-running the XProtect installer to update the .NET references.
We recommend;
1. Turn off automatic Windows updates.
2. Schedule in update times.
3. Stop all Milestone XProtect services.
4. Run Windows Updates.
5. Reboot
Example of Windows Updates being applied to the .NET Framework.
